Herbalist Arrested In His Shrine After Collecting N4m To Do Charm For A Taxi Driver

The police has arrested one   Abiodun David, for allegedly
defrauding a cab driver of about N4m.

The police said the victim, Adebayo Omoniyi, had been introduced to the suspect by a friend, who claimed that he (David) had made charms
for him which were effective.

David was alleged to have promised to make a charm that would boost Omoniyi’s transport
business and make wealthy people in the society to favour him.

However, after paying the money, which was for
concoctions and other ingredients, the 38-year- old reportedly did not notice any improvement in his fortune, and when he challenged the
suspect for a refund, his request was turned down.

He subsequently reported a case of fraud to the police at the zone 2 command, leading to the
arrest of the suspect at his shrine in Atan,
Sango, Ogun State, last week Thursday.

A police source said operatives recovered a tortoise and bottled candles from the shrine.

He said,
“The herbalist said one Kazeem he
worked for introduced Omoniyi to him to
also assist him in preparing a charm that
will boost his transport business and
make him to find favour with wealthy
people in the society so that he can get rich.”

However, the suspect claimed he only collected N380,000 from the victim, adding that he was
surprised the matter was reported to the police.
He said,

“I prepared bars of soap and some other concoctions for him. After a month, he
came back and accused me of
defrauding him and said what I gave him did not work as expected. That was how
I was arrested by the policemen at my shrine in Atan. He was not the first person I would prepare the charm for.

“I learnt the herbalist job from my grandmother, who was an herbalist before she died. Initially, I was a barber
before I started the herbalist job. Since I started the work, I have not prepared
money ritual for people. What I do is to assist those in need of favour and some
other medical-related issues.
“I was surprised when I was told that I collected N4m from the cab driver. The
tortoise and the candle in the bottle that were recovered from my shrine are meant for a client. I don’t do money ritual for people.”

The Zonal Police Public Relation Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect was a
fraudster who always disguised as an old man to deceive his victims.

She said,
“The suspect always put on costumes to
deceive people that he is actually an
herbalist. He collected N4m from the
victim. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, has said that
the suspect should be charged to court after completion of investigation.”

suggestions that a ransom of two million euro was paid by the federal government to Boko Haram for the release of the 82 girls.

said: “apart from the five Boko

M public, no other concession was made.

“Any other thing to the contrary is

exchange of the 82 Chibok girls.”
A thanksgiving service will be held for the girls today in Abuja.

Popular Yobe Businessman,Yakubu Jacob Marries Off 50 Girls At Once

In less than a month after
popular businessman, Mohammed Yakubu Jacob, married off 40 internally
displaced girls, he
has married off another set of 50 less privileged girls in Gashua
town, Yobe State.

The ceremony, held yesterday
under the guardianship of
Emir of Gashua, Alhaji
Abubakar Umar Sulaiman, at
his palace mosque in Gashua..

The girls were mostly
daughters of internally
displaced parents, orphans,
and less privileged people
who had suitors but could not
have the means to marry them off. Speaking at the event, the Emir of
Gashua said all the
couples had undergone
genotype, HIV, and
pregnancy tests. He said the
brides and grooms had been screened religiously to avert
any chance that would
invalidate their marriages.

He said; "We went to the extent of training these girls in different trades to
make them self-reliant.

That is why we came up
with a council that would settle the dispute
between the couples if
any, because we would
not tolerate divorce
until necessary." He then thanked the
businessman for relieving the
parents of a 'huge' burden
while appealing to the well-
to-do to extend similar
gesture saying; "Because these girls are
due for marriage, they
have suitors, but the
parents have no money.
This man did all the
necessary things needed,". Fielding question from Daily
Trust, the businessman said
he had received endless calls
from girls to help them get
married after he married off
the first batch a few months ago. He said; "These girls will call me
crying for help that their
parents have no means to marry them off. I know how it feels for a
father to have a grown up daughter that is due for marriage but he
does not have money to do. Some of the girls even lost their parents
and I don't want their dream to remain unfulfilled," One of the
brides, Aisha Muhammad, thanked the
businessman for making her
dream come true.

from his home in the Isheri area of Ogun State to Igbokoda, Ondo

smashed by Ogun state police command.

The suspects' names were
given as Fadeni Henry, Lebile
Olatunji, Ehuwa Oririe, Olotu
Tosin, Oluwole Ohunayo, and
Peter Omogbemi. i The leader of the gang, 23-
year-old Henry, had
reportedly struck a relationship with the victim
on the social media, and
allegedly lured him to Igbokoda, the gang's base, on Friday, May 12,
2017. The state Commissioner of
Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said
the wife of the victim had
reported the kidnap of her
husband to the police.

He said the command's
detectives, men of the Anti-
Kidnapping Unit and
operatives of the Federal
Special Anti-Robbery Squad
were directed to rescue the victim. Iliyasu said it was later
discovered that Henry and other members of his gang had lured the
victim, who
was a surveyor, to Igbokoda.

He said operatives of FSARS,
stormed the gang's hideout in Igbokoda, adding that the
hoodlums engaged the police
in a gun battle. He said six members of the
gang were arrested after the
gun battle. He said, "Investigation into
the case revealed that the
suspects collected some
amount of money from the
family of the victim, but
instead of releasing him, they killed him and dumped his corpse in a
river behind the
Holy Trinity African Primary
School, Igbokoda. "The corpse of the victim was
recovered and brought to
Abeokuta with the suspects."

The CP added that the
victim's mobile phone was
recovered from the hoodlums. "Weapons recovered from the
suspects are one pump-action
gun, one cut-to-size locally-
made double-barrelled pistol
and seven live cartridges,"
the police commissioner said. The leader of the kidnap ring,
Henry, said the members of
the gang strangled the victim. The secondary school dropout
said, "He was my friend on a
social media platform and I
invited him to Igbokoda. "On getting to Igbokoda, I
delayed seeing him till
around 9pm. We picked him
and took him to the primary
school. "We tied his hands to his back
after we had collected the
N20,000 we found in his
pocket. We later got his ATM
pin and withdrew another
N30,000 from his account.

"We called his wife and she
also sent money to an
account number that we gave her. The family members kept
sending money, but they did
not know we had killed him." Iliyasu warned criminally-
minded persons to leave
Ogun State, adding that if
they did not, "they will soon
meet their Waterloo."

Woman Donates Her Own Womb To Her 21-Year-Old Daughter Born Without Uterus

There is nothing like a mother's love for her child.

A woman has donated her
uterus to her 21-year-old
daughter born without uterus in the first surgery
of its kind in India.

The 43-year-old offered to
undergo the procedure so
that her daughter, who was
born without a uterus, can
experience childbirth. The uterus, or womb, transplant took place in the
city of Pune in southwest
India, Thursday. The surgery was performed
by a team of doctors at
Pune's Galaxy Care Hospital
and led by the hospital's
medical director, Dr. Shailesh
Puntambekar. "The patients are fine. The
surgery took nine and a half
hours in total," he said.

"The procedure is difficult
because multiple large
arteries are to be joined there, and veins that are
small and short," said
Puntambekar. "It is
technically very tough." The patient will have to wait
a year before trying to
become pregnant through in-
vitro fertilization (IVF),
giving her body enough time
to heal and adjust to the new uterus. According to Dr. Mats
Brännström, a professor of
obstetrics and gynaecology at
Sweden's University of
Gothenburg, only six babies
have ever been delivered from a uterus transplant —
two from the same mother.

Brännström led the team that
first successfully performed
the procedure in 2014, when
after 11 unsuccessful
attempts worldwide by their
team and others, a healthy baby was born in Sweden. All five babies
delivered since
have been the result of
surgeries performed by the
Swedish team. It remains to be seen whether India's first
transplant will result in a
birth.

Nigerian Artifact Stolen Decades Of Years Ago,Found In Italy

An artifact representing the
goddess of fruitfulness,
reluctantly released by Nupe
people to the Niger state
museum, and stolen some
decades ago, has been found in Italy. Emmanuel Zhiri,
executive director, Niger
State Council for Arts and
Culture, made this known to
NAN in Minna on Thursday.

"This artifact was found in
Italy recently by the
commissioner for
information, Mr Jonathan
Vatsa'', Zhiri said. i Zhiri added that it would cost
the state a "huge fortune," to
retrieve it.

He spoke on the sidelines of
the 2017 commemoration of
the world museum day with
the theme: 'Museum and
Contested Histories: Saying
the Unspeakable in Museums'. Zhiri said Niger state museum
was one of the well-
organised premier museums
with experienced
professional personnel.

He said government was
working seriously to expand
the museum by bringing in
more artifact to enrich the
state's museum. "We are working strategically to bringing in
more artifacts to uphold our
cultural heritage," he said.

"We have identified artifacts
we are going to bring in, like the musical strings of the late Walo
Shatan Gwari and late
Nupe musicians' musical
strings used in the course of
their musical career. "We are going to pay the
custodians of these musical
strings and bring them to the
Niger state museum. "It is
going to cost us about N2
million to bring them from the Niger Zone A, Zone B and
Zone C." Zhiri added that the essence
of bringing such artifacts
to Niger museum was to
preserve the history and
make it public to those who
did not know such history.

"People come in here to learn the history of different
artifacts; we keep them safe
for posterity. "Managers of
museum strive a lot to bring
in inherited artifacts from the people they were
bequeathed to because they
do not know the use as much
as we do.

"They do not know the
significance of these
artifacts. As far as they
know, they are keeping them
because they inherited them.
That is how much most of them know."

'My Parents Forced Me Into Marriage At The Age Of 19'-Patience Ozokwor

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has revealed in a recent interview with RTV,a Ghanaian TV that she got married at the age of 19 although it wasn't his decision but that of her parents.

The Evangelist said she was left with no choice than to accept the decision because she was not raised to disobey her parents.

She said:
"It was not my decision. And if it’s not my decision then I was forced into it. I did not see any reason my parents were
forcing me as I was still young. And even at that age I had so many suitors and
they just wanted me to get married. You
know when you come from a polygamous family and your mother is struggling for
her own daughters to get married and this other one is also struggling for her
own daughters to get married and when this one came around and I said no I
should make a choice. but I was not allowed to make that choice.'

They didn't give me that choice and at the end,
I had to obey my parents. I was not brought up
to disobey them at all."
When asked if she enjoyed the marriage, she
replied saying
"Sincerely speaking as a Christian I did
not."
Adding that he was once married to girl
who was arranged for him but the
marriage didn't work out.
"The girl was sent to London to meet
him but she got there and found out she
didn't like him so she decided to move
on with her life. So they didn't leave
together as husband and wife.
He waited till after he came back after
the war to come and marry me and
there was no reason for that."
Speaking further on her marriage, she revealed
that it wasn't easy at all for her as a young girl
"The marriage was not easy at all for me
as a young girl, it was not easy but when
you have two children and it is also not
in the culture of my parents for you to
jump from one man to another. I lost it
sometimes and I had make due with the
children God gave me that is why I am
very close to my parents.
When asked her view on marriage she said;
" It is an ordained thing by God and it should
be honoured. When a man and woman are
declared man and wife that is final, your plate
of food is out of your parents' house.
She further said that there are only two
reasons a person should leave their spouse
according to the bible, life and infidelity.
"If life is involved, God did not say don't
separate. God has standards and
christians must adhere to the standards
of God concerning marriage because
there are one or two things that a
husband and wife divorce otherwise it is
not coming from God. So it didn't come.
I didn't catch my husband cheating on
me and he didn't catch me so we had to
stay together until death parted us.
When he died, I became free, people
started coming for my hand in marriage
but I said no, it's already late"

Facebook Fined $122 Million By E.U For Spreading Misleading Information

The European Commission (EU) haa slammed Facebook with $122 million fine for misleading
information about its $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp in 2014.

According to the EU, Facebook said that the social network could not link the profiles of
users on WhatsApp and Facebook, which has over one billion users.

But in 2016, WhatsApp updated its terms of service and privacy policy and included in the
update, the possibility of linking WhatsApp users’ phone numbers with Facebook user’s
identities.

The Commission after conducting an investigation said that 'the technical possibility
of automatically matching Facebook and WhatsApp users' identities already existed in
2014, and that Facebook staff were aware of such a possibility.”

In a statement released by the European Union’s antitrust chief, Margrethe Vestager, she
said:

'Today’s decision sends a clear signal to companies that they must comply with
all aspects of E.U. merger rules. And it imposes a proportionate and deterrent fine on Facebook. The commission must
be able to take decisions about mergers’ effects on competition in full knowledge of accurate facts.'

In response to the fine,Facebook said it “acted in good faith” during its interactions with the
European Commission, and that it “sought to provide accurate information at every turn.”

The statement added that
''the errors we made in our 2014 filings were not intentional and the Commission
has confirmed that they did not impact the outcome of the merger review.

'Today’s announcement brings this matter to a close''
The EU sanction comes days after Facebook
received a 150,000-euro fine on Tuesday by a French data watchdog for failing to prevent its users’ data being accessed by advertisers and
Last week the Italian antitrust authorities levied a 3 million-euro fine on WhatsApp for allegedly obliging users to agree to share their personal
data with Facebook
